PUBLIC CREMATORIUM- THIRKKAKARA MUNICIPALITY

A place for the dead was one of the most interesting design projects we came across. The site already had a traditional crematorium and was to be upgraded to electric system along with the master planning for the entire complex. The new complex was designed in east west axis. The site was a steep slope and the project was desifned in levels. The bottom most level occupied parking. the middle level was made as a hall and the upper floor occupies crematorium. The pedestrian entry is from main road level. The three floors are connected by a series of steps which acts a design element which takes you through the idea of death. A deepashika is placed as focus to the entire complex.
